Happy New Year
Happy New Year Everyone!
2018 was an amazing author year for me. I’ve learned so much about the indie publishing world and about some of YOU! I can’t wait for 2019 to bring a whole new set of adventures in this bookish world.
I’m not normally a New Year’s Resolution type of person, but this year I was debating on doing one for some personal and author goals. Then Mary, in my new reader’s group, told me how she adopts a one-word MANTRA each year, and that really resonated with me for some reason. I think I’m going to make ACCEPTANCE my mantra for 2019 because there are so many things outside of my control these days, especially in regards to my health and author life, that I just need to learn to not worry, not force things, and just ACCEPT.
TELL ME: DO YOU MAKE NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS? WHY OR WHY NOT? AND WHAT IS YOURS IF YOU DO?

GRAND OPENING EVENT WITH GIVEAWAYS
In mid-December, I announced my new FB group, called LJ’s Music and Stories to my newsletter followers, and I’ve been floored by the love and support so many of you have shown me by joining me there. My group administrators (Stefanie, Michelle, and Sarah) and I are having fun sharing posts about the groups theme of #liveliferesiliently with the help of music, quotes, and stories.
I'm celebrating the new group with a GRAND OPENING EVENT January 1st-6th. The best news is that I’ll be personally GIVING AWAY over $400 of books and prizes. That doesn’t include any GIVEAWAYS by the over 19 authors, narrators, and bloggers that will be popping by throughout the week.
Many of the GIVEAWAYS will be on a First Come, First Serve (FCFS) basis, so you’ll want to check in often during the week.
There are TWO GRAND PRIZE GIVEAWAYS that you’ll be able to sign-up for in the group.
The 1st GRAND PRIZE is for signed paperbacks of my series + a $25 Amazon gift card, and it is already up and running on the group page. Just join the group, look for the GIVEAWAY post in the “announcements”, and complete your entry in the comments. That giveaway will be open until 12:00 p.m. PST on Monday, January 7th, see post for other rules. Approx. $90 value.
The 2nd GRAND PRIZE won’t be available until later in the week, but it will be for an eBook of each of the 24 books on my Best of 2018 (see info below). Once that giveaway goes live, it will be in the announcements on the group's page, and you’ll be able to enter by commenting on the post. You’ll have to see that post for the rules and giveaway dates. 😉 Approx. $140 value.
Wondering what the heck this group is all about? Here’s what I wrote in the group’s description:
This group is a place to share and celebrate 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜, 𝐪𝐮𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬, 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 who help us 🅻🅸🆅🅴 🅻🅸🅵🅴 🆁🅴🆂🅸🅻🅸🅴🅽🆃🅻🆈. Things that help us get through the ups and downs of life. Things that help us become the best versions of ourselves that we can become.
That's what I hope my readers see in all my books too—people who have lived past their challenges. We do not have to forget—or get over—the things that have happened to us, but we can take them, make them part of us, and then become a different version of ourselves.
I hope the group interests you, and that you’ll join me for our Grand Opening Event.
I hope to see you join! Xo
TOP READS OF 2018
I read 80 books this year, which is lower than I’ve read in recent years, but better than when I first started keeping track in 2010.
The biggest growth area for me was reading books by other amazing indie authors. I feel like my whole book world expanded once I started reading widely across all the genres in the indie book world. Are there bad books in the indie market? Sure, but there are bad books in the traditionally published world as well.
In my new FB group and on my other social media accounts, I'll be sharing my Best of 2018 all week long. You can join me there to see them all and enter a giveaway for an eBook of all 24 books on Jan. 6th in my FB Group. Here's a sneak peak of my top two favorites in the Young Adult genre. I tried, wherever possible, to give one Indie/Hybrid and one Traditionally published book.

RECENT READS & RELEASES
The Wish Collector by Mia Sheridan
Beauty & the Beast twirled with Phantom of the Opera and hints of magic and lots of self-discovery. It’s beautiful. My favorite quotes from the book are:
"Everyone deserves to tell their own story in their own voice."
"Maybe we were all some shade of monstrous given the right circumstances."
Luna and the Lie by Mariana Zapata
It reconfirmed for me why Mariana is one of my very few, true one-click authors. She is seriously the Queen of the Slow Burn. Her characters are beautifully flawed and real. Plus, her secondary characters are out of this world. If you get a chance, you should definitely check her new release out…or ANY of her books.

Cadence Untouched (Duet Book 1) by Dakota Willink
